Mahindra is clearly going all-in on electric, and the XEV 9S is shaping up to be their flagship family offering. This isn’t just a stretched version of another model; it’s being built from the ground up as a “Born EV” on the dedicated INGLO electric skateboard platform, placing it above the sleek, coupe-styled XEV 9e.
Details
- Global Premiere: On November 27, 2025, in Bengaluru, Mahindra’s “Scream Electric” event is scheduled to unveil the complete specifications and design.
- Positioning: One of the first authentic three-row electric SUVs available in the Indian market, it is confirmed to be a seven-seater SUV.
- Platform: It has a flat floor and built-in design flexibility thanks to its sophisticated INGLO architecture, which is shared by the BE 6 and XEV 9e.
Design
While it’s expected to borrow some visual flair from its electric siblings, the XEV 9S will prioritize cabin space, especially for the third row.
- Stance: In order to accommodate the third row, it is expected to have a longer wheelbase than the XEV 9e, bringing its overall size closer to that of the well-liked XUV700.
- Exterior Cues: Anticipate the futuristic EV design that the XUV.e8 concept established, which is likely to include a closed-off grille, a unique full-width LED light bar up front, and vertically stacked LED headlamps that resemble the XEV 9e. The 9S will have a higher roofline for improved headroom in the back, in contrast to the 9e’s coupe roofline.
- Interior Focus: The most significant development inside is the confirmed addition of sliding second-row seats, which is a major benefit because of the INGLO platform’s flat floor. This should greatly improve overall cabin flexibility and third-row access.
Power, Range, and Tech Expectations
Official numbers are being kept under wraps until the premiere, but we can make some educated guesses based on the shared platform:
- Battery Options: In order to accommodate varying budgets and range requirements, it is very likely to offer dual battery pack options, perhaps the 59 kWh and 79 kWh units, similar to the XEV 9e.
- Projected Range: Depending on the battery size selected, the XEV 9e’s real-world usable range could be anywhere from 400 to 600 kilometers per charge.
- Tech Loadout: As the flagship, it should inherit the best technology, perhaps including a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, Level 2+ ADAS features for increased safety, and a triple-screen setup (driver’s display, main infotainment, and a passenger screen).
The XEV 9S seems targeted at families who want to go electric without compromising on space or premium features—a bold move for Mahindra in the evolving EV landscape!
